Dinuclear chloroneodymium quinolinylcarboxylates: The molecular structures affected by water and the catalytic behavior toward isoprene polymerization

2016

Abstract A series of dinuclear chloroneodymium quinolinylcarboxylate compounds was synthesized and characterized. The nature and importance of metal-organic aggregations have been considered as an important factor regarding the molecular structure and catalytic performance. The neodymium center in all the title compounds exhibits the coordination numbers of 8. Cage aggregation was observed in the solid state, and the cyclic arrangement was achieved when water molecules were incorporated into the structure. Upon the activation with Al(i-Bu)3, all the title neodymium compounds form the efficient catalysts for isoprene polymerization. The catalytic activities are not strongly affected by the m…

Partial Reduction and Selective Transfer of Hydrogen Chloride on Catalytic Gold Nanoparticles

2017

© 2017 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim HCl in solution accepts electron density from Au NPs and partially reduces at room temperature, as occurs with other simple diatomic molecules, such as O2 and H2. The activation can be run catalytically in the presence of alkynes to give exclusively E-vinyl chlorides, after the regio- and stereoselective transfer of HCl. Based also on this method, vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) can be produced in a milder and greener way than current industrial processes.

Conservation state of two paintings in the Santa Margherita cliff cave: role of the environment and of the microbial community

2021

Abstract The conservation of ancient paintings sited in humid environments is an actual challenge for restorers, because it needs the knowledge of the materials the paintings are made up and of their interaction with a peculiar surrounding environment; thus, tailored procedures and strategies aimed at restoring and preserving paintings are necessary. The Santa Margherita’s cave in Castellammare del Golfo (Trapani, Italy) is a natural cave, containing the remains of paintings, in a poor state of conservation, belonging to an ancient church dated back to the Middle Age. The present manuscript reports the monitoring of environmental conditions (i.e., temperature and humidity) in a full year as…

The Recognition of Viologen Derivatives in Water by N-Alkyl Ammonium Resorcinarene Chlorides

2017

Three water-soluble N-alkyl ammonium resorcinarene chlorides decorated with terminal hydroxyl groups at the lower rims were synthesized and characterized. The receptors were decorated at the upper rim with either terminal hydroxyl, rigid cyclohexyl, or flexible benzyl groups. The binding affinities of these receptors toward three viologen derivatives, two of which possess an acetylmethyl group attached to one of the pyridine nitrogens, in water were investigated via 1H NMR spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, and isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC). ITC quantification of the binding process gave association constants of up to 103 M-1. Analyses reveal a spontaneous binding process whi…

Direct catalytic cross-coupling of alkenyllithium compounds

2015

A catalytic method for the direct cross-coupling of alkenyllithium reagents with aryl and alkenyl halides is described. The use of a catalyst comprising Pd-2(dba)(3)/XPhos allows for the stereoselective preparation of a wide variety of substituted alkenes in high yields under mild conditions. In addition (1-ethoxyvinyl) lithium can be efficiently converted into substituted vinyl ethers which, after hydrolysis, give readily access to the corresponding methyl ketones in a one pot procedure.

Palladium-catalysed direct cross-coupling of secondary alkyllithium reagents

2014

Palladium-catalysed cross-coupling of secondary C(sp(3)) organometallic reagents has been a long-standing challenge in organic synthesis, due to the problems associated with undesired isomerisation or the formation of reduction products. Based on our recently developed catalytic C-C bond formation with organolithium reagents, herein we present a Pd-catalysed cross-coupling of secondary alkyllithium reagents with aryl and alkenyl bromides. The reaction proceeds at room temperature and on short timescales with high selectivity and yields. This methodology is also applicable to hindered aryl bromides, which are a major challenge in the field of metal catalysed cross-coupling reactions.

Green and Integrated Wearable Electrochemical Sensor for Chloride Detection in Sweat

2022

Wearable sensors for sweat biomarkers can provide facile analyte capability and monitoring for several diseases. In this work, a green wearable sensor for sweat absorption and chloride sensing is presented. In order to produce a sustainable device, polylactic acid (PLA) was used for both the substrate and the sweat absorption pad fabrication. The sensor material for chloride detection consisted of silver-based reference, working, and counter electrodes obtained from upcycled compact discs. The PLA substrates were prepared by thermal bonding of PLA sheets obtained via a flat die extruder, prototyped in single functional layers via CO2 laser cutting, and bonded via hot-press. The effect of co…

Breakthrough in the α-Perchlorination of Acyl Chlorides

2012

The preparation of -perchloroacyl chlorides, from reaction of the corresponding unfunctionalized acyl halides with chlorine, was efficiently achieved under base-catalysis, using a tetraalkylammonium chloride as catalyst. The process is solvent-free and the procedure is easy, inexpensive, and suitable for scale-up.
